Fullback – Mats Hummels
The Fullback is the most defensive position in soccer. In order to succeed in this position one needs good strength and accuracy. It is also required to be fast to stop the opponents fast running from scoring.
Mats Hummels is a Central Defender that plays for Bayern Munich. He started his career in 2006 and returns to Bayern Munich in 2016. He has played on the German national team since 2007. They won the World cup in 2014.
Hummels is regarded as one of the best defenders in the world. He’s big, strong, and versatile. He can also play defensive midfielder. His father was a professional footballer, and so is his brother, Jonas.
Fullback – Philip Lahm
Philip Lahm is a Fullback for Bayern Munich, and captain of the team. He’s a former captain of the national German team. He’s led the team to seven league championships. Typically he plays fullback but can be pressed into service at midfield, either central or wide.
Lahm announced this year, at his 500th appearance with Bayern Munich, that he is going into retirement. He was offered a directorship with the club but turned it down. Although he’s considered a very private person, he released his autobiography in 2011.
Central Midfielder – N’Golo Kante
This position entails a good ball passing and ball handling skills. One must distribute the ball very safely among the offenders while also ensuring slowing down of the opponent’s offensive attacks before they reach the last defensive line.
N’Golo started his senior career in 2011 and has been playing for Chelsea since 2016. He won the prestigious Professional Footballers’ Association Players’ Player of the Year for 2016 – 2017.
He also started playing for the France national team in 2016. N’Golo holds a lot of promise as his career progresses. Chelsea is the fourth club he’s played for in five years but seems to have found a home.
